Cycas is a type of plant that appears prehistoric, commonly referred to as cycads or "sago palms," distinguished by a thick, unbranched trunk capped with a cluster of large, feathery, evergreen foliage. While they look similar to palms, they are not true palms and represent an ancient group of gymnosperms that were prevalent during the age of dinosaurs. Most varieties are indigenous to Asia, Oceania, and eastern Africa, and despite being cultivated commercially, many species are regarded as endangered in their natural habitats.
Cycas species typically flourish in warm tropical and subtropical environments but can adapt significantly to various settings, ranging from areas with high rainfall to dry, rocky terrains.
