In Bhutan, the commonly dominated type of cypress is “Cupressus cashmeriana”. In the Bhutanese national language, Dzongkha, Bhutan cypress, or Kashmir cypress is called, “TSENDEN SHING”. This species of evergreen conifer is local to the eastern Himalayas in Bhutan and adjoining ranges of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. It is found both in sub-tropical and temperate regions of Bhutan. Most dominantly, it is found at the elevation ranges of 1800 – 3500 meters above sea level.
The community forest groups and private forests of Bhutan mostly opt for this tree species due to its high adaptation rate to the harsh climatic conditions.
The plantation of cypress has many benefits from the environmental perspective as well as for the economical value for the households, communities, and nations. Therefore, Bhutan Seedlings' primary goal is to produce as many saplings of this species as possible to materialize the above facts further. The nursery management team is keenly passionate to work with nature and the environment. If any organizations or agencies of governmental, non-governmental, and international NGOs, please contact us.
